Background
Serene is a counsellor-in-training completing her Master of Clinical Mental Health and Psychotherapy at the National University of Singapore. She recently completed her internship at the University Counselling Centre, where she supported students and young adults through concerns such as stress, relationship difficulties, emotional overwhelm and life transitions. She grew up in a Singaporean Chinese family and brings a grounded, steady presence to her work. Her background as a nurse, caregiver and nursing educator has shaped the way she sits with people in moments of vulnerability, change and uncertainty. Caring for her grandmother who had dementia also gives her a personal understanding of caregiving, burnout and the emotional weight that can come with supporting others.
Serene enjoys working with children, university students, young adults and adults who are navigating different seasons of life, including school transitions, dating, marriage, parenthood and grief. She takes a collaborative and strengths-based approach, helping clients explore how their feelings, thoughts, behaviours and physical experiences are connected. Her therapeutic work draws from CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing and grounding practices such as deep breathing, box breathing and body scans. She hopes to create a space where clients can slow down, understand themselves more clearly and discover what helps them move forward.
Outside her clinical training, Serene finds joy in music. She plays the piano for church worship and the flute in a church ensemble. She stays active through rock climbing, running, cycling, yoga, pilates, gym classes and badminton. She enjoys creative activities like crochet, travelling and spending time with her family.
