Background
Amirah is a clinical psychologist in training, currently completing her Master of Clinical Psychology at James Cook University. Born and raised in Singapore, she is deeply attuned to the local cultural context and the diversity of people within the community. Growing up in a family that emphasised interconnectedness and mutual support, she extends this strong sense of warmth, care, and shared spirit into her work with clients and colleagues. Amirah has a well-rounded background, with experience working and volunteering with individuals across the lifespan and from diverse walks of life, especially in the educational and mental health settings. She has an interest in working with children and young people in the long run, and is passionate about how developmental, relational, and environmental factors interact to shape emotional wellbeing. In her therapeutic work, Amirah values the importance of bearing witness to clients’ lived experiences and strives to create a safe, respectful space where individuals feel seen, heard, and understood. Her approach is informed by skills drawn from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and she is developing her practice through ongoing learning in Schema Therapy and systems-informed approaches. Outside of clinical work, Amirah places importance on maintaining her own wellbeing and artistry. She enjoys spending time in nature and being outdoors, which she finds grounding and restorative. Her interests include gardening, baking, painting, and rock climbing—activities that allow for both creativity and challenge, and which reflect her belief in the value of curiosity, connection, and self-care in everyday life.
